Dive into Dumbarton and grow your little ones love of history! This 10-week summer program is 45-minute and is geared towards children ages 3-5 and their parent/caregiver. Each week, take a mini-tour of our historic property, then interact with fun activities, crafts, and games.

June 7 – August 9, 2018, Thursdays, 10am.
$5/child, FREE/Family Museum Members.

June 7: Shapes- Help us kick off the summer by diving right into the shapes and colors you can find in the Dumbarton House!

June 14: Flag Day/D.C. as the Capital- What did the Nation’s capital look like in the 1800s? Come celebrate Flag Day and see Georgetown through the eyes of the Nourse Family in 1804.

June 21: Food- Farm fresh food is a treat nowadays, but was an everyday occurrence at the Dumbarton House! What might you see on a farm and in the dining room in the Federal Period?

June 28: Music- Does your little one march to the beat of their own drum? Come explore what music and entertainment would have been 200 years ago.

July 5: Independence Day in the City and Games- How have Independence Day celebrations changed in the last 200 years? Come find out, play games, and celebrate!

July 12: Gardens- It is no secret that our gardens are beautiful, join us outside to learn about our outdoor escape.

July 19: Teddy Bear Tea- Tea was often served to friends who stopped by the house to visit. Bring a stuffed friend or doll with you, explore the Dumbarton House, and treat your friend to a nice cup of tea.

July 26: Archeology- How do we know what the Dumbarton House and its land would have looked like? By digging! Step outside and explore what the land can tell us about the past.

August 2: Clothes- What are you wearing today? How would kids have dressed differently in the 1800s? Stop by and find out the ins and outs of fashion and how it has changed.

August 9: Bedtime- Early to bed, early to rise! See how bedtime habits have changed between now and the 1800s. 

*Parents/caregivers must remain with children throughout the program
