Welcome back for the 12th year of the Jane Austen Film Festival at Dumbarton House! Grab a blanket, your date, friends, or family, and enjoy Jane Austen’s timeless love stories under the stars in our historic North Garden.
Why do we have the annual Jane Austen Film Festival? The “Federal period” is the American equivalent of the “Regency period” in the United Kingdom.
Despite the ocean separating us, cultural and political ties remained strong between the United States and Britain throughout the nineteenth century. Because of the overlap in time and context, we can use Austen’s stories to better understand our history and life in early Washington D.C.
Ticket sales begin June 1, 2023 at noon EST.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Tickets should be purchased in advance as this event regularly sells out.
- Tickets are $10 and go on sale at noon on June 1, 2023.
- Capacity limited to 175 tickets for pre-sale with 25 available for purchase at the gate.
- Rain dates are August 2nd and 9th. If it rains on these dates as well, the event will be cancelled, and you will be refunded the cost of your ticket.
- The rain call we be made on our website and via social media by 3:00 p.m. on the day of each film viewing. Please follow us @dumbartonhouse on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
- Gates open at 7:30 p.m. for the general public.
- Gates open at 7:00 p.m. for museum members.
- The film will start at sunset- roughly 8:15 p.m.
- Refreshments and concessions will be available for sale.
- Picnics are encouraged but no glass and no tables are permitted.
- NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
- Blankets encouraged. Low chairs only- those in taller chairs will be moved to the edge or back of viewing area to ensure everyone has an unobstructed view.
- Seating is first come, first served. Members get early access.
- No dogs (service animals allowed).
- No smoking.
- Seating for ticketholders cannot be guaranteed 15 mins after the start of the film.
- Tickets are non-refundable. If you are no longer able to attend, thank you for supporting Dumbarton House.
Information for Members
- Members receive discounted tickets ($5 rather than $10). Memberships must be purchased by noon ET on May 30, 2023 in order to receive member benefits for ticket pre-sale.
- The discount code will be sent to members on May 31, 2023 at noon ET.
- Members must present a membership card or confirmation email in order to exercise day-of-movie benefits including early admission to the grounds and gift shop discounts.
